Election Day is Tuesday, April 4

Don't forget to vote on April 4, 2017! Check out the County Clerk's website for electoral information, including sample ballots.

This spring, the Champaign Unit 4 School Board has 3 seats to fill. The terms of current members Lynn Stuckey and Jonathan Westfield are ending, and the seat to which Gianina Baker was appointed (after the departure of Laurie Bonnett) now must be filled by the voters.

As it happens, 3 candidates are running uncontested for these 3 open seats. While electoral suspense may be low as a result, I want to make sure that our community is introduced to the 3 capable people who will be joining (or rejoining) the Board of Education after the election. They will be sworn in at our Board meeting on April 24, 2017, after the County Clerk has certified the election results.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Nicole Lafond, the author of these three candidate profiles. She has been the designated education reporter at the News-Gazette as long as I have served on the Board. She has sat through umpteen meetings without ever looking bored, asked relevant questions, filed timely and thorough stories, and even laughed at our jokes. Nicole is leaving C-U in May to begin a Masters program in Journalism at Columbia University -- we congratulate her and wish her all the best!
